
The Formular font-specimen calendar is inspired by phototypesetting disks, a typing technology for preparing text for printing by means of photo processes that became widespread in the 1950s. The beginning of the phototypesetting era also saw the mass popularity of neo-grotesques.

Diatype discs are used as historical reference. Their size is 8 inches (20 cm)
