From 8 March to 7 April 2019, a major exhibition was opened at HSE ART GALLERY, the key research theme of which was women changing the world.

Project sponsor Katya Bochawar
Project curator
Katya Bochavar is an artist, a curator, an architect of exhibition spaces, director of the Solanca Gallery, a curator of the GRUND project. Among her works is the grand view of modern art «Here and Now» (Manage, 2018), the design of the Russian pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennal, the curatorship of the 2013 Archstasia Festival, and many others.

Participants in the exhibition
Catherine Borodina, Jaroslav Motaylov, Kolokolov Maria, Ivette Vladimirova, Natalia Lenkerite, Leila and Lei Karacchieva, Xenia Ermakova, Darya Lukas, Sophia Afanassieva, Ekaterina Mordwinkin, Anastasia Galeyev, Natalia Mihalycheva, Elena Latysheva, Svetlan Karaev, Daniel Dwinsky, Lisa Paršin, Margarita Varakina, Ekaterina Titov, Love Donkov, Katerina Moha, Nina Antonov, Anastasia Jeremina.
Topic of the exhibit
The search for the ideal form stated in the title of the exhibit is a process of finding answers to questions: what is the ideal form of peace within and around us, the form of our interaction with others and with us, the form of body and spirit? Levi’s global campaign I Shape My World is designed to bring together women from around the world — different races, religions, ages and social strata. Risk, break stereotypes, break the rules, it’s the only way you can make the world the way you want it to be.
Natasha
Daniel’s Dwinsky «Natasha» project is a series of graphics in the format of «music cards». Daniel Dwinsky has been developing his own image language and space mythology for several years.
Run, Runyan
Ekaterina’s Titova’s «Run, Runyan» project is inspired by the fate of Marla Ranyan, the three-time U.S. running champion. At an early age, an athlete began to lose sight, but the doctors' predictions and the scepticism of the sports community did not stop her.
A spy with a conscience.
Daria Lukas, «Spionka with conscience», is the institution that is familiar with the story of Edith Tudor-Hart, a secret agent of Soviet intelligence in the United Kingdom, who has been able for years to provide the USSR with useful information and to create the legendary «Cambridge Five» of KGB agents.
Work
Twenty-two students from the ICU School of Design participated in the project. Their work was presented in the form of installation, documentation of performances, copyrights, video and sound art, interactive objects and games. All the works were created specifically for the exhibition.
Mermaid
In their work, «Rusalochka» Love Donkov and Katerina Muha reveal the myth of the mermaid as an allegorical of women’s sensitivity and ability to transform.
Hildegard’s New Experience
The New Experience of Hildegard, an immersive audio installation of Anastasia Galeeva, is a dedication to the composer and sound artist Hildegard Westerkamp, a study of the world through sound walk, which causes us to rethink the city’s usual background sounds, which we hardly notice or try to filter.
Left: Appproveed methhods. Right: Anyway
In a series of embroidery of Xenia Hermacova «Approved methods», traditional iconographic compositions exclude images of men, just as history has ruled out any mention of creative work by many women.
Jaroslav Motylov’s «No matter» facility, with which you imagine or remember what it’s like to learn to wear heels.
Non-ideal forms
Sophia Afanacieva’s work, «The Innocuous Forms», is a protest against the standardization of beauty and the imposition of myth on the ideal female body by society.
Cherry boomb
Leila and Lei Karacchiov’s Neon Bomb installation in the gallery’s windows refers the audience to both the work of the band The Runaways and the group’s socio-cultural phenomenon in general.
Counteraction
Catherine Mordwinna’s object «Action» is based on the delicate balance of the social roles we have accepted and the controversial male and female dichotomy. The armor here at the same time symbolizes both the war, that is, the man’s beginning, and the protection, the preservation of life, and thus the woman’s qualities.
Education and career programme
Prominent artists, curators, and other personalities described what enabled them to change the world around them as part of an open lecture at the ICU School of Design. Modern artists in a series of performances have exposed the issue of dependence on social attributes and the importance of self-expression, beyond gender stereotypes.
