«Message to Man» film festival anniversary poster
The emblem and prize of the film festival «Message to Man» is based on the painting by artist Nadia Rusheva, «Kentavrönk. It was her linear drawings that became the main source of inspiration for this poster. However, instead of the paper, the bearer of linear drawings is a film with its grainyness, perforation, and light. So it turns out that the paintings that appear on each other are scratched on the emulsions of the film and become visible only when the film is looked at: the white lines become the contours of light.
Not only does the technique I’ve chosen themeize one of the most traditional film bearers, the film, but it also expresses the search and creation process, the stages of which are characteristic of both the visual arts and the cinema. Drawings on each other and the complexity of the textures become a metaphor for the multilayered structure of films, and many unmasked corrections reflect the adjustments that the film is making in the course of its creation. The platform for the poster was performed in a mixed scratching technique on the surface of a tablet covered with water-based paint.
