The Folds / Installation

«Folds» in the typology offered by the artist is a section of the urban territory that officially belongs to an individual, but for some reason isn’t used at all. The most common variant of the «fold» — the spacing between two houses or fences, which are too narrow or blocked for passage, as a result of which they gradually grow littered and cluttered. Sometimes larger areas become «folds» as well — unpopular squares, forgotten wastelands and abandoned construction sites. The empty gray areas of the city map. Therefore, part of the installation is the results of the study of folds, including texts, photographs, videos, graphic sheets that fi this phenomenon, as well as a series of objects found in the folds (this part of the project can both expand and be rather brief).

The second part of the installation is a closed perimeter of fence. In the fence there are holes, looking into which the viewer sees dioramas placed behind the fence and representing the illusion of the «ordinary» tripartite Russian landscape: sky, forest, fild. In each of the dioramas one of the parts of the landscape gives out a fake in it — somewhere the grass has wrapped itself up, revealing its artificiality, somewhere the sky turns out to be peeling photo wallpapers, etc. Holes for viewing are at different levels, to get to one of it you need to pull up, standing on tiptoe, or even use a special stool, the other is located too low and you need to bend down to look into it.
